Latest Japanese Model (JMA) Predicts Wet and Cold Winter ahead in Mid-Atlantic

The latest JMA (Japanese Meteorological Agency) is out and as you can see from the two images below, the Washington Area might expect a “cold” and “wet” December through February.

Does this mean we are guaranteed a ton of snow? Not necessarily, we need the cold air in place while the moisture is streaming in… timing is everything.

The same model also shows the current weak La Nina conditions continuing through the upcoming Winter with neutral conditions developing in May.
