The latest Climate Prediction Center 6-10 day Temperature and Precipitation Probability Outlook show some welcome relief from the recent abnormally cold and wet weather. The image below (courtesy Pivotal Weather) indicates a 50-60% probability that temperatures will be above average in the Washington Area the 15th through the 19th of May.
The image above shows the latest Sea Surface temperature anomalies (departure from average). NOAA has issued an El Nino Watch and the latest global forecast models indicate that weak El Nino conditions will likely develop as we head into the latter half of Summer 2018 and continuing into the upcoming winter of 2018-2019.
