My Latest Thoughts on Sunday

Another high-impact winter storm heads our way beginning Sunday afternoon. The bitterly cold conditions out ahead of the system on Saturday will allow for a quick thump of accumulating snow before any change over to a wintry mix and or rain in parts of the area.

While it’s too early to have high enough confidence in issuing an official snowfall map, I wanted to share the latest higher resolution national blend of models below.

The mountains of NC, Virginia & West Virginia

Washington DC Metropolitan Area

Given the exceptionally cold conditions on Saturday out ahead of this system it appears that a quick 3 to 6” of snow is possible in DC before the change over to a wintry mix or rain.

A shift in storm track of even 50 miles to the east would have significant impacts in increasing snowfall amounts in the District and along the Interstate 95 corridor.

Philly and eastern Pennsylvania

New York City & Boston

I’ll look at Friday’s latest forecast models and will issue an official snowfall map during the afternoon/evening. Stay Tuned.
