Tracking Today’s Threat of Severe Storms

Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening in the DC & Baltimore metropolitan areas. The latest high-resolution model below indicates storms will fire in the western suburbs between 3 and 5pm and then progress eastward toward the Chesapeake Bay through the evening.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed the District of Columbia, extreme northern Virginia and portions of Maryland under a slight risk.

What does a “slight” risk mean?

Thursday will be cooler with mostly cloudy skies and a few showers possible as a trough of low pressure crosses the area. High temperatures may struggle to reach 75°

Friday will be sunny, breezy and fall-like with lows ranging from 55° to 60° and highs in the lower to mid 70s. A northwest breeze will make it an ideal day for outdoor exercise.
