Timing the Line of Strong to Severe Thunderstorms

The high-resolution forecast models have been consistent depicting a line of strong storms marching out of the Shenandoah Valley around 1pm and racing eastward through the metropolitan area between 3 and 6pm.

There is enough CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) and marginal shear for a line of storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts in excess of 65 mph and hail.

Lightning is one of nature’s most deadly forces (after flash flooding) — if thunder roars, go indoors. Do not wait for rain to fall, if you can hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
