A majority of the high-resolution forecast models today show a squall line developing across West Virginia and pushing through the Washington Region between 3pm and 7pm.
The image below, courtesy Pivotal Weather shows a strong line of storms, commonly referred to as a squall line, which will be capable of causing damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph and a few isolated tornadoes.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Washington Area under a “Slight Risk” for severe thunderstorms today with damaging winds being the primary threat.
