The latest high resolution rapid refresh (HRRR) model (image below), shows Freezing Rain developing across the DC metropolitan area this morning. The freezing rain will increase in intensity this afternoon when I suspect some of these advisories may be upgraded to Ice Storm Warnings in the DC Metro Area.
Temperatures will hold in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees through the event, setting up a textbook scenario for a damaging ice storm across portions of the National Capital Region. There is a risk of power outages and tree damage especially in locations that are under Ice Storm Warnings where at least a quarter of an inch of ice is expected.
