The Washington Area remains under an “Enhanced” risk of Severe Thunderstorms this afternoon, the image below is courtesy NOAA and the Storm Prediction Center (SPC).
A Tornado Watch will likely be issued shortly in areas outlined in red box below (image below from SPC):
The primary threat from 3pm through 7 pm will be super cells containing damaging winds, torrential rain, dangerous cloud to ground lightning and isolated tornadoes. A line of storms may form behind the individual super cells with the greatest threat being damaging winds. The storm threat should calm down later this evening (after 8pm) in the D.C. Metropolitan Area and after 10 pm across the Chesapeake Bay.
