Significant Flood Threat for DC, Baltimore, Philly, and NYC?

If the latest run of the European forecast model continues its current trend, the big cities of the northeast megalopolis from Washington to NYC may be in for some record rainfall next week.

The following high resolution maps (courtesy Pivotal Weather) are from the latest run of the European forecast model and show the potential rainfall accumulation from Monday 18 May through Friday 22 May.

Northern Virginia – Washington – Baltimore:

Wilmington – Philadelphia – Trenton:

Tri-State Area:

If a widespread 4 to 8″ of rain does in fact materialize, there would certainly be some major river flooding across the northern Mid-Atlantic states including the following watersheds:  Chesapeake Bay, Delaware River and Hudson River.

Hopefully the upper-level pattern will progress more quickly than the models are currently indicating to prevent an area of low pressure from stalling off of the DE/NJ coast.
