Don’t Believe the Snow Hype: Rain Event for the Immediate Washington Area on Sunday

The American Suite of Forecast Models (GFS and NAM) are garbage, and in my opinion it’s time for NCEP to throw them out and start over.

A very dominate ridge of high pressure off of the southeastern coast of the United States has kept the storm track too far north and west of D.C. this winter.  In addition the lack of upper-level blocking over the North Atlantic (+NAO) has not done the Northeast Megalopolis (D.C. to Boston) any favors in allowing for storms that do form to slow down and dump snow as they crawl up the coast. With astronomical Spring rapidly approaching (March 20th) we are running out of time.
