Accumulating Snow is Likely Thursday Night Across Parts of the D.C. Region

Most of the forecast models indicate that a period of wintry precipitation will fall during the overnight hours on Thursday with precipitation ending just before the morning rush hour.  Due to the precipitation falling during the overnight hours, snow will stick to untreated surfaces with slick spots likely by morning, especially away from the Urban Heat Island of downtown Washington.

The latest European forecast model (image below courtesy weathermodels.com) indicates that this system will be a fast mover with the potential for some rain or sleet mixing in south of D.C.  With that said, there is the potential for a widespread coating to 3″ across the region with details becoming more clear by Thursday morning.
