Timing Monday’s Freezing Rain Event

The latest high-resolution models show light freezing rain developing across the DC Area Monday between 1 and 4 pm.

Given how frozen the ground is, even if temperatures do make it into the middle 30s in the District, any precipitation that falls would likely create a glaze of ice on untreated surfaces potentially causing a treacherous afternoon and evening commute. Pockets of freezing rain and drizzle should taper off during the late evening hours but icy conditions are possible again on Tuesday morning as low temperatures drop below freezing.

A warm up begins in earnest mid-week with some much-needed rainfall potentially impacting our region Thursday through Friday.
