Snow & Ice Accumulation Maps for Sunday’s Storm

Snowfall Potential through Sunday Night
Potential Snow & Sleet Accumulations through Sunday evening.

Snow will begin during the morning hours well southwest of the DC Area.  For the immediate DC Area and points north, snow may hold off until Noon.

Snow will mix with Sleet and will transition over to Freezing Rain during the afternoon and evening hours. Freezing Rain will continue overnight on Sunday and through the Monday morning rush hour.

Temperatures on Monday may warm into the middle 30s changing Freezing rain over to Rain.  It is too early to know for sure exactly when this transition to rain will occur (pre-dawn Monday/Monday afternoon) or if it will occur at all across the sheltered valleys.

Travel will become treacherous on Sunday afternoon through midday Monday, especially on secondary roadways.  Residents across the Washington Region should be prepared for the possibility of scattered power outages, especially in locations that receive one-quarter inch of ice accumulation from Freezing Rain.

Sheltered valleys east and west of the Blue Ridge (Skyline Drive) at elevations below 1500 feet are the most susceptible in receiving up to 1/2″ of ice with power outages.

  1. Wow! That’s a lot. Perhaps next time. Thanks for the fantastic blog.

  2. The Washington Area would have received between 3 and 6″ of snow with 8 to 10″ across the far northern and western suburbs.

  3. If this storm were all snow, how much would we get?
